Andrew Koppel, the son of legendary newsman Ted Koppel, was found dead Monday morning after an all-day drinking binge.
Koppel and Russell Wimberly, a waiter he just met at NYC’s Smith’s Bar & Restaurant, started drinking together at 11 a.m. After a 12-hour-long binge, he was brought back to friend Belinda Caban’s Washington Heights apartment, where he was found unconscious and not breathing.
” Koppel was just really messed up when he came in. He was very drunk,” said Caban, a resident of the building. “I didn’t understand anything [Koppel] said. We took him to the bedroom and laid him down to rest.”
They came back a few hours later to check on him and discovered that he had urinated and defecated in the bed and was not breathing.
“His complexion wasn’t right. It was pale. I said to call the police,” continued Caban. “When the ambulance came, they said he was dead.”
The two men were bar hopping all day and Koppel drank from a Jameson bottle while they walked.
Here’s what Russel Wimberly had to say:
“There was a lot of alcohol. He didn’t take anything else [drugs] around me, and neither of us ate all day. We talked about our kids . . . He said he had a kid and loved [her] a lot.”
Koppel, who was an attorney for the city Housing Authority, was only 40-years-old. He left behind a baby daughter.
Sad.

Across the pond, sources are reporting that an alarming number of women are signing up for controversial "virginity repair" operations before they get married. According to reports, thousands upon thousands of woman are paying big $$$ to have the surgery that will fool their husbands into thinking they are virgins on their wedding night.
The "virgin repair" procedure is technically called a hymenoplasty. It involves the hymen being stitched or reconstructed so that it will tear and bleed again on the woman's wedding night. In the last five years, 116 hymen repair operations have been undertaken!
WTF!!! Ladies, it is 2010! Who cares??? Your vajayjay is your business!
According to the source, not only are women actively seeking out this procedure, but many of them are having them done under NHS. (Think our Medicare.) So taxpayers are paying for women to hide the fact that they've gotten busy with other people besides their hubbys!
Sources point out the the majority of women who are looking to preserve the illusion are Muslim and some even take the charade a step further by buying chastity certificates to "prove" that they are virgins. One doctor explains:
"The majority of our clients are Muslim women. They worry about having had sex and their fiance and family knowing that they have been touched before. It is more cultural rather religious. If the bride is not a virgin and does not bleed on the wedding night, it is a big shame on the family. The woman fears that the husband will walk out, divorce or humiliate her all her life. There have been honour killings in extreme cases."
OMG! How awful!
We can imagine putting your body through such an ordeal just for the sake of some archaic belief system. These poor women!

The supermodel was making her way through customs in the Tel Aviv airport when she was busted for not declaring her new iPad.
Bar claims she didn't declare it on her form because she was only their for a brief commercial appearance.
Dumb!

As he gets ready to step away from The Killers and release his solo album Flamingo, Brandon Flowers gives deets to NME on the greatly anticipated release.
Here are some highlights:
On breaking out:
“To be honest, I personally would prefer it if this was a Killers record. Some of these songs were originally destined to be Killers songs, but it is what it is. I certainly never sat around dreaming of going out on my own, but singing songs and writing songs, it’s kind of what I do, you know? And I just don’t want to stop right now.”
On his solo career affecting the band:
“I see this as something that will only make The Killers stronger… I feel like I’m getting something out of my system with this album, but I want the next Killers album to be a wonderful collaboration between four guys who are ready to make the best record that they possibly can.”
On his collaboration with Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis:
“Jenny’s helped me out on a couple of songs, and we also got to duet on a song called ‘Hard Enough,’ which turned out great. She’s always popped into my mind whenever I think about getting a female vocalist involved because she’s a fellow child of Las Vegas, too. A lot of people don’t realize that, but she was actually born there, in the same hospital as Ronnie Vannucci Jr, only a few weeks apart!”
On whether he’ll tour:
“Oh, hell yeah! I mean, obviously, we need to make sure that people want to hear it first. But we’ll definitely be coming to the UK. And I’m up for doing the festival circuit if they want me!”
On moving on:
“I really can’t blame the other guys, but I’ve just got this fire in my bosom that’s still burning. I’m ready to go!”

Celebs Feet: Angie Talks About…Everything!

It’s very rare to get someone as busy as Angelina Jolie to sit down for a tell-all interview, but Vanity Fair managed the task and is featuring the mega star in their latest issue.
The interview is very telling, from what Angie thinks of Brad Pitt’s annoying beard to getting pregnant again. Angie also admits that retiring from acting maybe just around the corner for her as having her children and her family have made her realize that acting is “not the most important thing in my life.”
One real hot button topic she touches upon is why she and Brad haven’t made it down the aisle. Angie insists that they are “already” married, not legally of course, but through their children have forged a bond for life:
“Children are clearly a commitment, a bigger commitment [than marriage]. It’s for life.”
When asked to describe the Brangelina brood, she says:
“Mad’s a real intellectual, which I can take no credit for genetically. He’s great at school, great at history. He feels like he could be a writer or travel the world and learn about places and things. Zahara’s got an extraordinary voice and is just so elegant and well spoken. Shiloh’s hysterically funny, one of the goofiest, most playful people you’ll ever meet. Knox and Viv are classic boy and girl. She’s really female. And he’s really a little dude.”
Cute! We love seeing what little Shiloh will do or wear next!
Here are some of the other highlights:
On Brad with the kids:
“I keep telling Brad he owes me. He’s had a few months off in one of the most beautiful cities in the world with the children. And he’s such an artist and goes to the stone yards and the art exhibits, and loves being in such a cultural place.”
On a potential Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel:
“People have tried. And it’s strange: do we have kids in the movie? We’ve thought about that, but it becomes personal now that we actually have kids. And if we work on it, we pull from our own life, which is funny to us, but you feel strange sharing too much. We did ask somebody to look into Mr. & Mrs. to see if they could crack a sequel, but there wasn’t anything original. It was just, Well, they’re going to get married, or they’ve got kids, or they get separated. Never great.”
On co-starring again with Brad:
“I’d love to. We’ve talked about it. We’d have to figure out who’s going to watch the kids, but it’s really about finding the right thing, because we’ve looked. When you’re a couple, there are certain things people don’t want to see you do. It becomes too indulgent, too personal. I don’t think people want to see people who are really together intimate on-screen. Maybe we have to play bad guys that try to kill each other, so it’s just fun and aggressive, not dealing with some man-woman deal.”
Whenever the day comes that she does do another movie with her hubby, the box-office will be eternally grateful.
